Overview of GrowGuide Interactive Tools

Indoor plant cultivation relies heavily on tracking specific physical metrics. In the past, growers had to calculate key values manually or guess targets by reading complex charts. To make these calculations easy, GrowGuide has developed a suite of interactive, mobile-friendly calculators designed to take the guesswork out of your grow room parameters.

By inputting simple measurements—such as your tent dimensions, light wattage, or fan ratings—our tools calculate exact metrics for lighting, ventilation, watering, and soil mixes. Using these tools, you can optimize your grow room setup, prevent common rookie mistakes (like light burn, under-ventilation, or pH lockout), and save money by buying only the equipment and nutrients your crop actually needs.

The AI Leaf Symptom Scanner & Plant Doctor

Our most advanced tool is the Interactive Plant Doctor & AI Leaf Symptom Scanner, located on our Problems page. When leaves turn yellow, develop brown spots, or curl, time is critical. The AI Symptom Scanner allows you to take a photo of an infected leaf or upload an image directly from your phone.

The scanner uses a client-side computer vision model powered by ONNX Runtime Web. It runs completely locally inside your browser, meaning your photos are processed privately on your device and are never uploaded to a remote server. The model analyzes visual patterns on the leaf—such as interveinal yellowing, spot colors, and tip burn—to identify potential deficiencies, pest infestations, or mold.

Once the scanner identifies a potential issue, the Interactive Plant Doctor provides step-by-step organic and chemical treatment instructions. For example, if the scanner detects a magnesium deficiency, the Doctor will outline the exact dosage of Epsom salt or Cal-Mag to apply, and direct you to relevant guides to correct the root cause.

Pro tip

When using the AI Leaf Symptom Scanner, ensure you take a close-up photo of a single leaf under natural white light. Purple or bright yellow grow lights will distort the leaf color, causing inaccurate model diagnoses.

Environmental Control: CFM, VPD, and Light Intensity

Maintaining the correct grow room climate is the key to maximizing yields and preventing mold. Our environmental calculators are designed to balance air, light, and humidity together:

Light & DLI Calculator: Input your light wattage, target canopy height, and photoperiod to calculate your Daily Light Integral (DLI) and PPFD distribution. The calculator renders a 3D grow tent with custom plant growth stages and canopy elevations, helping you adjust fixture height without burning your plants.

VPD (Vapor Pressure Deficit) Calculator: VPD measures the pressure difference between the water vapor inside a leaf and the surrounding air. Input your room temperature, leaf temperature offset, and relative humidity (RH) to calculate your exact VPD. The calculator highlights whether your plants are in the optimal transpiration zone or at risk of mold.

Grow Tent Ventilation (CFM) Calculator: Ventilation is critical for bringing in fresh CO2 and removing humidity. Input your tent length, width, and height to determine the baseline CFM needed. Checkboxes allow you to add realistic static pressure modifiers—such as carbon filters (+50%), 90-degree duct bends (+30% per bend), and LED heat load (+15%)—to size your inline fan correctly.

Substrate & Nutrients: Soil, pH, and Dilutions

Our substrate and feeding tools help you calibrate your water chemistry and soil mixes safely, reducing nutrient lockouts:

Organic Soil & Amendment Calculator: Input your pot size (in gallons) or raised bed dimensions to calculate a custom 30/30/30 base potting soil recipe (compost, peat moss/coco, and perlite/aeration). It also estimates custom organic amendment additions (like bone meal, kelp, and dolomite lime) to construct a high-yield super soil.

pH & Water Adjuster: Pure water lacks mineral buffers, making it unstable. Input your starting water type (tap vs. RO water) and target pH to calculate the required amount of Cal-Mag buffering. It also estimates pH Up and pH Down additions based on your water volume.

Nutrient Dilution & EC Calculator: Input your nutrient line's dilution rates to calculate mixing charts. It features an EC/PPM converter that translates readings between BlueLab, Hanna (500 scale), and Ecotracer (700 scale) meters instantly, preventing overfeeding.

Pro tip

Always mix your silica supplements first, buffer with Cal-Mag second, add base nutrients third, and adjust the final pH last. Correct mixing order prevents chemical lockouts in your reservoir.

Planning Tools: Grow Schedule and Yield Estimators

Finally, our planning tools help you organize your cultivation calendar and project harvest outputs:

Grow Schedule Planner: Input your medium, water feeding rhythm, and strain type (photoperiod vs. autoflower) to generate a dynamic, week-by-week cultivation calendar. The planner outputs daily targets for temperature, relative humidity, light cycles, and watering checklists for each stage.

Yield & Harvest Estimator: Estimate your dry harvest weight in grams and ounces. The tool factors in your grow tent area, light type (LED vs HPS), actual wattage, medium efficiency, and grower skill level to calculate a realistic baseline harvest yield.
